Question by Danny: What is the best bait for common carp in winter?
not including corn and bread.
Answer by Grimer
You say not to mention corn, but that’s the bait I’ve had the best luck with for carp in the cold months. If you have not had good luck with corn, try it this way. Buy the institutional size cans of whole sweet corn, and visit the spot you are going to fish the day before, and chum the area with plenty of the bait. When you return the next day, chum the area again with a little more of the corn. Fish with a 1/0 hook laced with corn on a slip rig with the lightest possible egg,or other type slip sinker. You want just enough weight to keep the baited hook stationary.
The fish are going to be lethargic,so be patient. After you catch a few fish, chum the area again.
