Question by : Really upset by this video of a fish being eaten alive.. Link in description?
I have no idea how I ended up on this page, but I did. It shows a carp which is still alive and breathing but it’s body has been fried and eaten/prodded by a group of Chinese people. Will the fish feel this? Sounds silly but I’ve heard that fish dont have nerve endings and that’s an argument as to why fishing isn’t cruel. This is a distressing video, i can’t stop thinking about it now, is this part of their culture or is it just damn cruel?

I read up on how it’s done as I didn’t think the carp would survive either.. But it’s head and gills are kept in a wet cloth while its body is quickly fried. Surely it should be killed first and not served still breathing and moving on a plate helpless. This is cruelty?

  1. It’s the fate of most of the fishes in the world to be eaten alive, mostly by other fish or fauna. The lucky ones are killed and eaten by humans, but most end up dying in a predators digestive juices. I’ve seen the video before, and I doubt that a carp could survive the treatment described, so I think you reacted just like the people that posted the video wanted.

  2. Not shocking at all, fish as well as amphibians have a very primitive nervous system. The can be “clinically” dead yet still moving because of reflexive action. Yes some do eat” live” fish and seafood. Ikizukuri is the art of cutting live fish and serving it raw and still pulsing. ( interesting sensation while chewing)
