Zoe Hart(Rachel Bilson) is a successful cardiovascular surgeon in a mainstream New York hospital. About to embark on a brilliant career, she is brought crashing to earth; told she must work on her bedside manner before she can get an internship.
She ends up in small town Bluebell, Alabama, where their quaint, traditional ways are strange to the savvy New Yorker. Here she meets Lemon Breelan, the queen of tradition, Bluebell society and soon to be Zoe’s arch nemesis.
The stories revolve around Zoe’s struggle be accepted in Bluebell while trying to set up a practice. Her conflicts with Lemon (Jaime King), her friendship with the Mayor (Cress Williams) and her on/off romances.
A kind of romcom, soap opera, the characters are fantastic and develop with series. There are gorgeous women, hunky men and the script, while sometimes getting a little cringey, never really verges into the cheesy.
Funny, heart warming, quirky, with a great selection of music. In my estimation well on the way to becoming a cult classic series for those who like it!

Wanted to mention this little gem of a programme that I found by accident but am now totally hooked on, The more you watch it the more you “get” the charactors, its bit like Gilmore Girls as someone else mentioned in that way, yeah its a “fish out of water” kind story but thats what makes it fun,

Zoe Hart is fun, bit ditzy but really sweet, George is believable as someone who isnt 100% sure he’s with the right girl but is doing what he feels is the right thing, Wade (the barman) is crazy about Zoe but doesnt really want to be, Lemon is very ordered but actually a bit messed up on the inside and the more you watch the more you want things to work out (although I havent decided if Zoe should be with George or Wade yet, Got a soft spot for a bad boy)

Yes its lighthearted but if its action & gore you want then watch something else, I for one love a nice story with great charactors set in a lovely place (that I wish I lived in) that doesnt require a PHD for me to be able to follow the storyline.

Just enjoy it for what it is.

    Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I liked the premise behind this show as it reminded me of the old Michael J Fox film Doc Hollywood. New Dr who thinks they’re going to be a big shot with their career all mapped out getting thrown a life curve ball.

Didn’t really think my wife and I were going to enjoy it as much as we have though to be honest. As an added bonus I think there’s 22 episodes in this set rather than the usual 6-10 you get with a first series. We’re still only in to the 3rd disc now.

If you wanted to be over critical there’s probably a lot of things you could pick holes in. For example the main character is supposed to be a career driven woman striving to impress her father (a top surgeon himself) as a seriously good Dr but then she wonders around in heels that Victoria Beckham would struggle walking in. Yet with all the nit picking aside this show weirdly just works. I think possibly it’s because nearly all of the characters are very likeable.

It’s set in a small town deep in Alabama with pretty much every Southern stereotype you can think of getting a go. Well saying that there’s been no KKK and the mayor of the towns actually a black ex-pro footballer (who’s got some pretty damn cool tattoos btw) so possibly not that stereotypical. Yet rather than detracting from the show these just seem to add to the fun of it.

There’s more than quite a few laughs to be had in every episode and the story lines are usually good fun rather than being deep. Think more Sweet home Alabama rather than Mississippi Burning.

We liked the series Suits, which we’d watched before this, a hell of a lot. So the next offering was always going to have a tall act to follow. This show whilst perhaps not being quite of that caliber does have the same kind of feel good factor about it and comes highly recommended.
